Creating and managing chats
Every conversation in The Chat Agent is saved to your account and synced across devices. The sidebar keeps your full chat history within reach so you can pick up where you left off or start something new at any time.
Starting a new chat
Click the New chat button at the top of the sidebar to open a blank conversation. Before sending your first message you can:
- Select a model from the dropdown — see Selecting models for guidance on choosing the right one for your task.
- Attach files — see File uploads to learn which file types are supported.
- Apply a saved prompt template — see Prompt templates.
Type your message in the input field and press Enter (or click Send) to start the conversation. Responses stream in real time — you will see each token appear as the model generates it rather than waiting for the full reply.
Conversation history and the sidebar
Every chat you start is automatically saved and appears in the sidebar under your account. Conversations are listed in reverse-chronological order — most recent at the top. The sidebar is visible on desktop by default and accessible via the menu icon on mobile.
Your history is synced to your account, so switching devices or browsers does not affect it. All past messages — including model responses — are stored and available to continue at any time.
Searching past chats
Use the Search field at the top of the sidebar to find a previous conversation by keyword. The search matches against conversation titles and message content. Click a result to open that chat.
Search tips
Search works across all your saved conversations. If you remember a phrase from a previous response, entering part of it in the search box is often the fastest way to locate the right chat.Renaming a chat
New chats are given an automatic title based on your first message. To rename a chat, hover over it in the sidebar and click the Rename icon (pencil), type a new title, and press Enter. A descriptive title makes it easier to find the conversation later.
Deleting a chat
To delete a conversation, hover over it in the sidebar and click the Delete icon (trash). You will be asked to confirm before the chat is permanently removed.
Deletion is permanent
Deleted chats cannot be recovered. If you want to keep a conversation for reference, consider sharing it as a read-only link instead — see Sharing chats.Organising your conversations
In addition to renaming, you can pin important chats to the top of the sidebar so they are always easy to find. Hover over a conversation and click the Pin icon to toggle pinning on or off. Pinned chats appear in a separate section above the rest of your history.
Continuing and sharing chats
You can reopen any past conversation and continue it — simply click it in the sidebar and send another message. The full history is sent to the model as context.
To share a conversation with someone else, open the chat options menu and click Share. This generates a read-only link that anyone with the URL can view. For full details see Sharing chats.
